August 2009Letter to the EditorDear Editor,
Pier 70 could also become the focal point for institutions devoted to finding solutions to local and global problems. The site could accommodate convention facilities, with moderate rate hotels. The surrounding neighborhood will soon have many new restaurants and businesses, as development occurs along the light rail corridor. Our late former mayor, Joseph Alioto said, when he was first elected, “why go to Paris or Rome for your conferences, for your world meetings, for your summits, why not come to San Francisco?” Why not, indeed.
