February 2010Bayview Native Runs for SupervisorBy Joni EisenIn early January a tenth candidate for District 10 Supervisor introduced herself to members and friends of the Potrero Hill Democratic Club. Bayview-Hunters Point native Geoffrea Morris is a social worker who was educated in the City’s public schools. Declaring that District 10 needs someone “invested in the community,” Morris described herself as a servant of the people who has assisted thousands of families in low-income communities. She presented a survey from her website and urged people to take it to give her feedback about their concerns. Her goals for the district include a family-friendly community, a toxin-free environment, and affordable childcare for working-class families. She is currently involved in voter registration throughout the district. “I’m a social worker,” Morris said. “You tell me your problem and I’ll try to fix it.” Recent Potrero Hill Democratic Club meetings have featured introductions by candidates James Calloway, Malia Cohen, Kristine Enea, Marie Franklin, DeWitt Lacy, Steve Moss, Linda Richardson, Diane Westley Smith and Eric Smith. The field is large and there are still more to come. The Club will host a candidates’ forum as the November 2010 election draws near.
