February 2010More Potrero Hill PassingsBetty Berenson died December 13. Her community of friends spanned birders, nature lovers, writers, artists, and progressives. Berenson helped restore Land’s End and Pier 94, and educated children visiting Audubon Canyon Ranch. Her enthusiasm for birds, spring wildflowers, and the natural world was infectious. Berenson’s professional career included abstract and nature photography and college textbook editing. She left behind this fine natural world, a sister, nieces and a nephew, and numerous friends. Twentieth Street resident John Alexander Pavloff, born in 1942, died peacefully surrounded by family on January 6, 2010. Pavloff was son of the late Martha and John Pavloff, brother of Paula (Ernie) and the late Masha, father of John David (Laura) and adoring and proud grandfather (Pop) of Marie Alexandria. Pavloff excelled at sports. He built and raced cars for many years. His two vintage sports cars were prized possessions, kept in pristine condition. Pavloff was part of three generations of fireman, and served the San Francisco Fire Department with great pride, retiring in 1996. Golf was his passion; he held a record of two holes-in-one. Pavloff had a broad range of knowledge, an acerbic wit and generous heart. |
