Money for Housing
Various state agencies, including the California Department of Housing and Community Development, are gifting the City and County of San Francisco $163.6 million to build new homes and bolster infrastructure, $45 million of which will support three ongoing projects: Potrero HOPE SF, Sunnydale HOPE SF and India Basin. The City expects all three to be completed by 2027, save for Potrero Annex-Terrace Hill, which won’t be finished until 2029… Plans to construct affordable housing at The Power Station, the development’s first residential buildings, will be announced this month at a ceremony to be held at the site.
Mayoral Candidate on the Hill
Last month Daniel Lurie pledged to instill a culture of accountability, coordination, and public service as he announced his candidacy for Mayor of San Francisco at the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House. “We are facing a crisis of leadership, and the direction that we are headed leaves me deeply concerned that the next generation will not love and care for San Francisco as we do,” said Lurie, a father of two who founded the nonprofit Tipping Point, and is living in Potrero Hill while his Pacific Heights residence is being renovated. “This moment demands a new era of leadership from the outside. I have a proven record of building diverse teams, challenging bureaucracy and political obstacles, and delivering results on the issues most important to San Franciscans.”
No Delivery
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously voted last month to extend a requirement that any company proposing a warehouse 5,000 square feet or larger obtain a conditional use permit. The measure was first adopted last year when Amazon sought to expand its San Francisco footprint with plans that included a delivery center on Seventh Street. The six-month extension will provide time for municipal planners to finalize a suite of zoning regulations for parcel delivery facilities. Amazon wants to develop a 5.8-acre parcel delivery facility at 900 Seventh Street, the site of a former waste maintenance facility, now empty, that Recology sold to Amazon in 2020.
