Created by Dashel Lu-Pearson, age 11, “Under the Sea,” is a two-piece, interactive artwork. The underwater scene is drawn using color markers on a transparency. The transparency is then mounted on a black sheet of paper, thus obscuring the colorful scene. The flashlight and its “beam” are drawn on a white sheet of paper (and cut out). When the paper “flashlight” is slid in between the transparency and the black paper background, it “illuminates” the colorful underwater scene. Bravo, Dashel! Thank you for sharing your beautiful and clever artwork with our community!
