Programs for Adults

Book-A-Librarian: Librarians Julieta and Jenny will answer your questions about downloading eBooks or about your library’s free digital collections. Simply book an appointment that’s convenient for you or drop in Wednesday nights. For appointments, call 415.355.2822. Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

VIVA Movie Night: Frida  Celebrate Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month with a night of Latino cinema. We’ll be watching Frida starring Salma Hayek. This award-winning film explores the Mexican artist’s eventful life, focusing on her unique, iconoclastic sensibility, her tumultuous marriage to Diego Rivera, and her many affairs. Rated R. 123 minutes. Thursday, September 17, 6 to 8 p.m.

Author Talk: The Zen of Being Just Who You Are: Tim Burkett will discuss his latest book, Nothing Holy about It: the Zen of Being Just Who You Are. Focusing on stories, Zen koans, art, and poetry, Tim will help us discover that we are perfect just as we are, but at the same time we can all use a little improvement. Signed copies of his book will be available for sale. Thursday, September 24, 6 to 7 p.m.


Programs for Teens

Game On!: Come play video games on our big screen in the Potrero meeting room! Ages eight to 18 welcome. Tuesdays, 4 to 6 p.m.

Make your own natural lip balm!: Making lip balm is easy and fun! Our recipe is all natural- no dyes, petroleum products or preservatives. Customize your scent with the essential oils of your choice and take home a tube made just for you- by you. All materials provided. Wednesday, September 23, 6 to 7 p.m.

Programs for Children

Saturday Snacktivity: With food provided by Whole Foods Market Potrero Hill, we’ll offer a wholesome snack followed by a fun activity. All ages welcome. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Baby Rhyme and Play Time: Songs and rhymes for infants up to 18 months old and their caregiver(s). Tuesdays, 1:15 p.m.

Family Story time: Featuring stories, songs and rhymes. For children from birth to five years old and their caregiver(s). Thursdays, 10:30 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. 

Fun Flicks: Join us for a selection of short films for children.  Titles selected for September include The Bicycle, Cuckoo, Mr. Edgar! The Emperor’s Egg, and Doctor DeSoto.  Titles may vary, depending on availability. Wednesday, September 9, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. 

Movie and Meal Day: Our selection this month is Holes.  A boy being punished for a crime he didn’t commit learns there’s more going on at a juvenile correctional facility than meets the eye in this dramedy.  Starring Shia LeBeouf, Henry Winkler, and Sigourney Weaver.  Rated PG.  118 minutes.

Friday, September 18, 3 to 5 p.m.

Aguas Frescas: Celebrate Latino/Hispanic Heritage month with a refreshing agua fresca!  Combine fresh fruit in our bike-blender and enjoy a cool treat! Can’t wait for your turn on the bike blender?  Make a craft project while you wait! Saturday, September 19, 3 to 5 p.m.
