The Potrero View is seeking an editor-in-chief for San Francisco’s longest-running neighborhood newspaper.
This part-time contract position will lead coverage of San Francisco’s most economically and socially dynamic neighborhoods: Potrero Hill, Dogpatch, Mission Bay, and SOMA.
Estimated hours per month: 40
Payment per month: $3,000
Start date: January 2027
Responsibilities
Write and publish weekly digital newsletter rounding up neighborhood news.
Write stories to be published in monthly print newspaper and online.
Assign and edit stories from freelancers to be published in monthly print newspaper and online.
Coordinate with design staff on print production of newspaper.
Act as the View’s lead editorial representative.
Requirements
Excellent writing, reporting, and editing skills.
Great wit and strong voice.
Outstanding news judgment and journalistic ethics.
A passion for local news and shedding light on important neighborhood stories.
Creativity and differentiation, with the ability to ideate and produce stories that stand out.
Local knowledge of people, politics, and businesses of Potrero Hill, the Dogpatch, Mission Bay, and SOMA; preference for neighborhood resident.

The Potrero View is San Francisco’s longest running neighborhood newspaper and has covered Potrero Hill, the Dogpatch, Mission Bay, and SOMA since 1970.
We publish about 12,000 copies of the free newspaper monthly, which are distributed to homes, businesses, and gathering spaces throughout the area.
In March 2026, The Potrero View was acquired by Gazetteer.
