Summer Stride 2015: Join the Library’s reading program, Summer Stride 2015! Sign up at the branch or register online at www.sfpl.org/summerstride. Adults and teenagers will get a canvas tote bag after finishing 15 hours of reading. Kids will receive their prize after 10 hours. Enter in our weekly raffles for a chance to win great prizes, including museum passes and gift certificates.

Programs for Adults

Book-A-Librarian: Librarians Julieta and Jenny will answer your questions about downloading eBooks or about your library’s free digital collections. Simply book an appointment that’s convenient for you or drop in Wednesday nights. For appointments, call 415-355-2822. Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

Screen Time: Language Learning to go with Mango: Did you know that you can learn a new language with your library card? Mango Languages offers 63 different languages and 18 different English-as-a-second-language courses to choose from. Learn how to use this fabulous resource at your local library. Wednesday, August 5, 4 to 5 p.m. 

Earthquake Country: Expert advice on preparing for the next one: Matt Springer, Professor of Medicine at University of California, San Francisco, will talk about precautions that can be taken to lessen the damage from an earthquake at home and work. This presentation includes photographs of preparations in Springer’s own home and suggested measures to prepare for the next temblor. Sunday, August 16, 2 to 3:30 p.m. 

Literate Goat Book Club: Join us for a lively discussion of Voyage Out by Virginia Woolf. Our book club meets the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. All are wecome. For questions, call Julieta at 415-355-2822.  Tuesday, August 18, 6 to 7:45 p.m.


Programs for Teens

Teen and Tween Craft: Arm Knit a Cowl: Knitting without needles? Yes! It’s fun and easy! In this one hour workshop we’ll arm knit a stylish cowl, perfect for cooler weather. Use yarn provided or bring two skeins of super chunky weight yarn. Thursday, August 6, 2.30 to 3.30 p.m.

Programs for Children

Saturday Snacktivity: With food provided by Whole Foods Market Potrero Hill, we’ll offer a wholesome snack followed by a fun activity. All ages welcome. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Baby Rhyme and Play Time: Songs and rhymes for infants up to 18 months old and their caregiver(s). Tuesdays, 1:15 p.m.

Family Story time: Featuring stories, songs and rhymes. For children from birth to five years old and their caregiver(s). Thursdays, 10:30 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.  

Fun Flicks: Join us for a selection of short films for children.  August titles include Lady Fishbourne’s Complete Guide to Table Manners, Let’s get a Pup! said Kate, Mole and the Hedgehog. Mouse Around, and Mysterious Tadpole. For children three to eight. Bring a snack and enjoy the show.Wednesday, August 12, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.  

 

Make a Summer Lantern: Join the Museum of Craft and Design for a summer-themed craft.  Make a mini-lantern to light up your night! Saturday, August 1, 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Magic Dan: San Francisco local Magic Dan is the Man!  Dan has been performing magic for more than 20 years.  He’ll captivate you and keep you on the edge of your seats with his mesmerizing magic. Friday, August 7, 1:15 to 2 p.m.

Movie and Meal Day: We’ll present Space Jam and the Potrero Hill Family Support Center will provide a meal. Friday, August 21, 3 to 5:00 p.m.
